BCC Engineering Merges with Heath & Lineback

As part of the scope of work, ten mainline and/or C-D road bridges were widened over SR 836/NW 12th Street, NW 25th Street, NW 41st Street, NW 58th Street and the NW 74th Street Canal, and ramp bridges were widened at NW 41st Street and NW 74th. Interchange improvements at SR 836 included the construction of three new ramps featuring direct connection ramp flyovers (Category II Bridges) from eastbound and westbound SR 836 to northbound HEFT/SR 821 express lanes, and from the southbound HEFT/SR 821 express lanes to eastbound and westbound SR 836.

In addition, three new ramp bridges were built at the SR 836 and NW 12th Street Interchanges.  NW 117th Avenue was converted from a two-lane two-way frontage road between NW 34th Street and NW 41st Street, and from NW 41st Street to NW 50th Street, to a single-lane northbound only roadway, and new NW 117th Avenue single lane bridge will be constructed over NW 41st Street with ramp access to northbound HEFT/SR 821 and a slip ramp connecting northbound only NW 117th Avenue local traffic across NW 41st Street. Other improvements include subsoil excavation of unsuitable materials to facilitate roadway construction, signing and pavement marking, drainage and stormwater management improvements, highway lighting, and upgraded ITS infrastructure.

Responsibilities included coordination amongst numerous stakeholders and public agencies, management of the design submittal and review process, construction management, schedule analysis, materials testing and certification, project reports, ITS and Toll Systems testing, shop drawing and RFI reviews and certification of monthly payments to the contractor. BCC personnel reviewed all the contractor’s required submittals, such as shop drawings and product cut sheet approval. Our team was also accountable for ensuring that the contractor met all the project timelines and milestones as established by the Turnpike, as well as providing proactive coordination of all construction activities and their impact on the public and/or adjacent Projects.

Widen Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike (HEFT) from SR 836 to NW 106th Street

The improvements under this contract consisted of the widening and reconstruction of the HEFT/SR 821 mainline and associated interchanges at NW 12th Street, NW 41st Street, NW 74th Street, and NW 106th Street.  Additionally, several toll facilities were added or replaced including the construction of 4 new All Electronic Tolling (AET) Express Lane facilities, 4 replacement ramp AET facilities, and new AET mainline facility with accessible toll gantries for both express and general-purpose toll lanes located north of NW 74th Street.
