This roadway is vital link between Panama City and I-10, as well as a hurricane evacuation route; it includes major intersections with SR 390, CR 2321, Cherokee Heights Road, Titus Road, Star Avenue, and Commerce Boulevard. The purpose of the project is to increase capacity and safety by widening a 5.7-mile segment of US 231 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes, along with adding bicycle lanes and an approximately 5- to 6-ft-wide sidewalk.
The BCC Traffic Engineering Operations Team designed a fiber optic network providing connectivity for the County’s ATMS system and FDOT’s ITS Platform. The scope includes CCTV incident detection and Bluetooth based Travel Time System.
This capacity reconstruction project primarily consists of widening SR 75 (US 231) from four to six lanes from south of Pipeline Road to north of Penny Road and constructing flyover ramps at SR 390/CR 2321 and at Titus Road/Star Avenue in Bay County, Florida.
