The construction limits of these three projects extend from SW 288th Street to SW 216th Street, SW 184th Street (Eureka Drive) to SW 104th Street (Killian Parkway), and SW 104th Street (Killian Parkway) to SW 72nd Street (Sunset Drive) within Miami-Dade County for a total distance of 16.6 miles. The project included widening the road to accommodate additional capacity requirements as well as improvements to the existing pavement via milling and resurfacing.

The projects included a reconfiguration of the SR 874/Homestead Extension of the Florida Turnpike interchange featuring a new extension of SR 874 through the interchange with SR 821. In addition to this, operational and capacity improvements were also included along adjacent surface streets. Another important element of these projects is coordination with multiple transportation agencies along the corridor including Florida Department of Transportation – District 6, Miami-Dade County and the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX).

HEFT Widening & Reconstruction Projects

BCC Engineering was the Lead Designer for three separate Design-Build projects totaling over 16.5 miles and $292 million in construction cost along the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) which provided capacity, operational and safety improvements through the addition of express lanes across the corridor. The addition of these express lanes alleviated the congestion for the general-purpose lanes while also providing faster, more reliable travel times for long-range travelers.
