The professional civil engineering services include performing full roadway reconstruction utilizing concrete brick pavers, eliminating curbing and replacing with flush valley gutters and continuous trench drains, widening sidewalks, providing a valet parking system, reconfiguring on-street parking, and coordinating with the landscape architect to propose trees in a corridor saturated with underground utilities designed and permitted for relocation. The purpose of this project is to make Flagler Street in Downtown Miami a more pedestrian-friendly roadway, where the street can be closed for special events, creating a street plaza environment. In addition, this project is introducing several traffic calming measures, including narrowing the travel lanes, and implementing decorative high-visibility pedestrian cross walks and decorative street furniture. This project also includes providing new hardscape patterns, designing street lighting, designing a new water distribution line and two sanitary sewer gravity lines, and re-designing the drainage system to provide a 100-year service life operation. Furthermore, this project includes extensive coordination with Miami Downtown Development Agency (DDA), Miami Parking Authority, Utility Agency Owners (UAOs), and permitting authorities.
This City of Miami Office of Capital Improvements project involves the beautification of Flagler Street in the area of Downtown Miami, Florida, and includes roadway, parking, and pedestrian accommodations.
