BCC Engineering Merges with Heath & Lineback

The Districtwide General Engineering Consultant (GEC) Contract primarily supports Transportation Development including Design, Right of Way Acquisition, Program Management, Modal Development, and Planning & Environmental Management. The objective of this contract is to provide support services to assist the District in bringing to completion projects in the 5-Year Work Program. Assignments may include anything from major reconstruction projects to smaller rehabilitation projects. The GEC is expected to function as an extension of the FDOT’s staff by providing highly qualified technical and professional personnel to deliver services through the issuance of individual Task Work Orders (TWO).

An example of a TWO received on this contract is the Golden Glades Interchange (GGI) Improvements program. The GGI is an interchange of regional importance which provides connectivity to six major principal arterials and expressway facilities including I-95, SR 826/Palmetto Expressway, and Florida’s Turnpike. It is the backbone for the transportation of goods and services as well as passenger trips in the northeastern region of Miami-Dade County. As part of this TWO, BCC serves as the District’s Owner’s Representatives and is responsible for leading nine project segments which are designing the reconstruction one of south Florida’s busiest interchanges while making sure that all Department standards, processes and criteria are met. In addition to reconstructing I-95 and Florida’s turnpike within the project limits, major improvements included as part of the GGI program also include providing a new direct flyover connection between eastbound SR 826/Palmetto Expressway to northbound I-95, providing direct express lane connections between Florida’s Turnpike and I-95 express lanes systems, and providing an auxiliary lane along northbound I-95 between GGI and Miami Gardens Drive to improve operations along mainline I-95.
